Ticmint sends WhatsApp messages through Gupshup, a Meta-approved WhatsApp Business Solution Provider. This guide covers the one-time setup that connects your business to Gupshup and switches WhatsApp on inside your Ticmint dashboard. It is for organizers setting WhatsApp up for the first time, and by the end your numbers are live and the WhatsApp Marketing module is ready to use.
Applies to
- Audience: Organizers and partner admins
- Role required: Admin of your Meta Business Manager, and admin of the Facebook Page you want to use
- Where: Meta Business Manager (business.facebook.com), a Gupshup connection link that Ticmint emails you, and the Ticmint dashboard
- Applies to: WhatsApp marketing campaigns and transactional messages (booking confirmations, reminders, tickets)
Note: Organizers who do not wish to whitelabel can skip this step and use Ticmint’s default WhatsApp account for transactional messaging.
Before you begin
- Admin access to your organization’s Meta Business Manager account, also called Facebook Business Manager or FBM. If your organization does not have one, create it at business.facebook.com before you start.
- A Facebook Page for your brand. A WhatsApp Business account is attached to a Page, so WhatsApp cannot be set up without one.
- At least one phone number you can dedicate to WhatsApp, and the ability to receive an SMS or a voice call on it during setup.
- Your legal business name and a business document (registration certificate, utility bill, or tax document), in case Meta asks you to complete business verification.
Time to complete: About 30 minutes of your own time. Ticmint completes the remaining steps in the background.

Step 1: Link your Facebook Page to your Meta Business Manager
Gupshup can only create a WhatsApp Business account for a Facebook Page that your Meta Business Manager owns. A Page you administer from a personal Facebook profile is not enough — it has to sit inside the business account.
- Sign in at business.facebook.com with the Facebook profile that administers your Page.
- Open Settings, then go to Accounts → Pages.
- Click Add.
- Choose Add an existing Page if the Page already exists, or Create a new Page if it does not.
- Enter the Page name or its URL, then confirm.
- Confirm that the Page now appears in the Pages list with your Facebook profile listed as an admin.
Note: If someone else in your organization owns the Page, they must either transfer it to your Meta Business Manager or add you as a Page admin. Ticmint cannot do this on your behalf.
Step 2: Choose the phone numbers for WhatsApp
The phone number you connect becomes the sender your attendees see, and it cannot be swapped casually afterwards, so decide before you start the connection.
Number requirements
Requirement | Why it matters | How to check |
Not active on WhatsApp | A number already registered on the WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app cannot be used for the API until that account is deleted | Open WhatsApp on the phone, go to Settings → Account → Delete my account |
Can receive SMS or a voice call | Meta sends a one-time verification code to the number during setup | Send yourself a test SMS before you begin |
Owned by your business | The number carries your brand’s display name and quality rating | Use a company number, not a staff member’s personal number |
Includes the country code | Numbers are registered in international format | +91 98XXXXXXXX, not 098XXXXXXXX |
Which number to use
Option | Choose this when | Effect |
An existing business number | You have a landline or mobile number that is not active on WhatsApp | Attendees see a familiar local number; a landline verifies by voice call |
A new number you buy | Your main number is already on the WhatsApp Business app and you cannot delete it | Clean start, no risk to your existing WhatsApp chats |
A Meta-provided US number | You have no number available and do not want to buy one | Meta issues a US (+1) number for you during setup; attendees see an international sender |
How many numbers to use
Setup | Choose this when | Effect |
Two numbers — recommended | You send both promotional campaigns and booking confirmations | Marketing and transactional traffic are isolated. If attendees block or report your campaign number, its quality rating drops on its own, and ticket confirmations and OTPs keep delivering from the other number |
One number | You only send transactional messages, or you are running a short pilot | Simpler setup, but one bad campaign can throttle or suspend the same number your ticket confirmations depend on |
Warning: Running marketing campaigns on the number that also sends ticket confirmations puts confirmations at risk. Meta lowers a number’s quality rating when recipients block or report it, and a low rating reduces how many messages that number may send per day.
Step 3: Complete the Gupshup connection link from Ticmint
Once your Page and numbers are ready, tell your Ticmint contact. Ticmint generates a Gupshup connection link and emails it to you. This link is what joins your Meta Business Manager to Gupshup, and only you can complete it — Ticmint has no access to your Facebook credentials.
- Open the Gupshup connection link on a desktop browser, signed in to the Facebook profile that administers your Meta Business Manager.
- Click Continue with Facebook and grant the permissions the dialog requests.
- Select your Meta Business Manager account from the list.
- Select the Facebook Page that your Meta Business Manager owns.
- Create the WhatsApp Business account when prompted, or select an existing one.
- Enter the phone number you chose, including the country code, and choose to verify by SMS or Phone call.
- Enter the verification code Meta sends to that number.
- Enter the display name attendees will see next to your messages. Use your trading name exactly as attendees know it — Meta rejects names that do not match the business.
- Repeat steps 6 to 8 for your second number if you are using separate marketing and transactional numbers.
- Reply to your Ticmint contact confirming that the link is complete.
Tip: Complete the connection link in one sitting. If you close the browser midway, reopen the same link rather than asking for a new one.
Step 4: Hand over to Ticmint to activate your dashboard
After you finish the Gupshup connection link, Ticmint takes over. There is nothing for you to configure in the Ticmint dashboard yourself.
The Ticmint team:
- Collects your API keys from the Gupshup partner account.
- Adds those keys to your organization in the Ticmint dashboard, under Settings → Notification Channel.
- Maps each number to its purpose, so marketing campaigns send from your marketing number and booking confirmations send from your transactional number.
- Confirms by email that WhatsApp is live on your account.
Note: Ticmint cannot add your keys until the Gupshup connection link is fully completed and at least one number is verified. If Ticmint tells you the connection is incomplete, reopen the link and finish the number verification.
Verify it worked
Run these three checks once Ticmint confirms your WhatsApp setup is live.
- Check the dashboard: Sign in to Ticmint and open the WhatsApp Marketing module. The campaign screen loads instead of showing a “not configured” state.
- Check the sender: Submit one message template for Meta approval, then send it to your own phone once approved. The message arrives from your business display name, not from an unknown number.
- Check the split: If you set up two numbers, send one marketing message and trigger one booking confirmation. Each arrives from the number you assigned to that purpose.
Troubleshooting
Problem | Cause | Fix |
The Gupshup link rejects your phone number | The number is still registered on the WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app | Open WhatsApp on that phone and go to Settings → Account → Delete my account. Wait a few minutes, then re-enter the number in the Gupshup link |
Your Facebook Page does not appear in the Gupshup link | The Page is not owned by the Meta Business Manager you selected, or you are signed in with the wrong Facebook profile | Add the Page under Settings → Accounts → Pages in Meta Business Manager, then reopen the link |
The verification code never arrives | The number cannot receive SMS, or the carrier is blocking international short codes | Choose Phone call verification instead of SMS and answer the call to hear the code |
Meta rejects your display name | The name does not match your registered or publicly known business name | Re-submit using your trading name exactly as it appears on your website and Facebook Page. Avoid adding words like “Official”, “Sales”, or “Marketing” |
Ticmint says the connection is incomplete | The signup flow was closed before the number was verified, or a WhatsApp Business account was created without a number attached | Reopen the same Gupshup link from your Ticmint email and finish the number verification |
Campaigns send but confirmations stop | Both message types are sharing one number whose quality rating has dropped | Ask Ticmint to onboard a second number for transactional messages, and keep campaigns on the original number |
If a problem persists, reply to your Ticmint onboarding email with your organization name, the phone number you are registering (with country code), your Meta Business Manager ID, and a screenshot of the error.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need my own Gupshup account?
No. Ticmint onboards you under its Gupshup partner account, so you do not sign a separate Gupshup contract or manage a separate Gupshup login. Ticmint holds the API keys and configures them in your Ticmint dashboard for you.
Can I use the number that is already on my WhatsApp Business app?
Only if you delete that WhatsApp account first, and deleting it permanently removes its chat history and contacts. Most organizers keep the app number for one-to-one conversations and register a different number for Ticmint. Decide before you start, because the deletion cannot be undone.
What happens if I do not have a phone number for WhatsApp?
Meta can issue a US (+1) number for you during the Gupshup connection flow, so setup is not blocked. Attendees will see an international number as the sender, which can lower open rates for a local audience. Use your own local business number where you have one.
Why does Ticmint recommend two separate numbers?
Meta assigns each number its own quality rating based on how recipients respond to it. Marketing campaigns attract blocks and reports far more often than booking confirmations, so a single shared number lets a poorly received campaign throttle the messages your attendees actually need. Two numbers keep that risk on the marketing side only.
How long does the whole setup take?
Your part: linking the Page, choosing numbers, and completing the Gupshup link — takes about 30 minutes. Ticmint then adds your keys and confirms by email. Meta template approval is separate and is usually reviewed within 24 hours of submission.
Can I add another number later?
Yes. Contact your Ticmint contact and ask for a new Gupshup connection link for the additional number. The Page and Meta Business Manager links you completed the first time are reused, so adding a second number is faster than the initial setup.
